Why choose this Tokyo tour ?

Meiji Jingu shrine, despite being an iconic tourist attraction featuring authentic Japanese culture, can be a bit inaccessible to foreigners unfamiliar with Shinto. We are thus arranging this tour to help you make the most of Meiji Jingu and leave you with a peace of mind by guiding you through the philosophy and practices of Shinto and enjoying a personal prayer session during with you can experience the essence of Shinto.

In the personal prayer, you first write down your wishes to God for family safety, marriage, health, academic success, etc. Then you are taken to a tatami room where you can watch priests in ancient costumes purify the place with the sound of bells, a performance of Gagaku (ancient court music) on ancient instruments and flutes (a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage), and a Miko (shrine maiden) dance performance. Finally, with your heart cleansed and refreshed, you receive an Ofuda, which is an amulet filled with your wishes along with the power of today’s prayer.

What makes Personal prayer at Meiji Shrine! a unique experience ?

We will meet under the first torii (first shrine gate) at the entrance to Meiji Jingu Shrine, which is a huge shrine. The walk to the main shrine normally takes about 15 minutes, but we walked slowly for 40 minutes, guiding the way. On the way, there is a place where barrels of sake and wine are piled up. Foreigners may not understand the meaning of these barrels, but we will guide you slowly through these places as well. Please take as many pictures as you like. We will help you. We will also teach you the official way to pass through the torii gate and how to use the hand-watering basin. Other tourists are very rude. By learning from us, you will be recognized by the Gods. After that, we will greet the gods in the same hall of worship as the general public before proceeding to the Kaguraden.

You will learn how to officially pass through the torii gate and how to purify your body at the hand-watering basin. After greeting the gods in the same place as the general public, called the hall of worship, you will proceed to the main shrine. This is called Kaguraden. There, you will register. We will translate the materials you submitted in advance and submit them to us. Please rest assured. There will be a short waiting time. During this time, we will explain how the ceremony will be performed. Finally, we will go up to the main shrine. First, the priest reads the prayer and greets the gods with everyone. After that, the name and address of the person to be prayed for are read out and a request is made to God. After that, Gagaku, an ancient Japanese traditional music with drums and flutes (designated as a cultural asset by UNESCO), and dancing by miko (shrine maidens) are dedicated.

After the tour, a photo will be taken. If you want a good luck charm or other items, we will assist you.
