This morning market is a great place to see local vegetables and fruits and handicrafts. And many shops offer food sampling. Talking to shop owners is also fun.

Stop At: Kusakabe Folk Museum, 1-52 Ojinmachi, Takayama 506-0851 Gifu Prefecture
This house was built in 1879. It is a great example of traditional Japanese houses. We can go to the house and see the rooms. In the main hall, there is the beautiful structure of the post and beam shown up by light coming in through the window.

Stop At: Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, 178 Sakuramachi, Takayama, Gifu 506-0858, Japan
Twice a year, Takayama Festival happens in the town. At the festival, beautifully decorated festival floats come out. This is the highlight of the festival. Apart from the festival time, this is the only place we can see the festival floats.

Next to the Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, this Shito Shrine is found. Its building is surrounded by tall, straight trees, which makes the scenery impressive.

Stop At: Sanmachi Suji, Takayama Gifu Prefecture
What makes Takayama famous for is the old town area. There are the preservation areas for traditional buildings. This is where you find old houses along the streets. It is a very picturesque place. We enjoy seeing this scenery and also find some shops selling good food and traditional handicrafts. We visiti a sake brewery and taste delicious sake.

We are crossing this iconic bridge before getting to Takayama Jinya. The scenery of the river and the mountain is beautiful. Great place to take photos.
Stop At: Takayama Jinya, 1-5 Hachikemmachi, Takayama 506-0012 Gifu Prefecture
During the Edo period (1600-1868 AD), this place was used as an administrative office to govern this area. There were many of those found throughout the country at that time, but this is the only one left today. It is a great place to see the history of Takayama and how people worked in the past.
