Stop At: Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park, 2 Chome-3 Wakakusacho, Shiraoi, Shiraoi District, Hokkaido 059-0902, Japan

In the Ainu language, upopoy means to sing in a large group. Fittingly, the Upopoy National Ainu Museum aims to record, rebuild, and revive the indigenous Ainu culture.

The Ainu are the indigenous people of northern Japan and Russia. They have a unique language, religion, and culture that sets them apart from Japan. They have finally been officially recognized by the aboriginal inhabitants as of 2008. Experience the true Ainu life at the Upopoy National Ainu Museum & Park with us.

As nature is an important part of the Ainu culture and identity, this beautiful outdoor park is another main point of this special tour. The National Ainu Park is labeled as an “open-air museum”, which includes experiences such as Ainu performing arts, craft-making, cooking, kids programs, and nature viewing.
