Tōdai-ji is a Buddhist temple located in Nara, Japan. It was founded in the early 8th century during the Nara period and is one of Japan’s most famous and historically significant temples. The temple’s main hall, known as the Daibutsuden, is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world, and houses a giant bronze statue of the Buddha known as the Daibutsu or Great Buddha. The statue is over 15 meters tall and weighs around 500 tons, making it one of the largest bronze statues in the world. Tōdai-ji also features a number of other important structures, including the Hokke-do Hall, which houses important Buddhist scriptures, and the Nigatsu-do Hall, which is known for its beautiful views of Nara city.
