What to Expect When Visiting Nasukarasuyama, Tochigi, Japan
【OUTLINE】
Collect flowers, leaves, branches, and roots in nature, and boil them to make natural dye liquor. And dye silk or other materials in the dye liquor.
Itinerary
1．Collect natural materials for dyeing (30 minutes)
Collect leaves, stems, roots, and nuts in Satoyama, outskirt of country, around the Kominka, an old Japanese-style house. (In some cases, we will prepare them due to time constraints)
2．Boil the plants (60 minutes)
Burn firewood in the stove inside the old house to boil water in a big pot. Put the collected plants into the pot, boil and extract the essence to make dye liquor.
3．Dyeing (60 minutes)
Soak a stole or other materials into the dyeing liquor to color the material.
4．Drying (60 minutes)
Dry the dyed stole or other materials in the sun.
