Ryoan-ji Temple: a Zen temple of the Dragon at Peace, the site of Japan’s most famous rock garden, one of the symbols of Kyoto.
Kinkakoji temple: built in 1397 as a Zen temple in northern Kyoto. The temple is famous for having its top two floors completely covered in gold leaf. The temple had an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond.
Nijo castle: dates back to Edo period in 1603. Nijo castle is a perfect place to get a feel of the local history and political changes that happened in the Japanese history.
Kiyomezu dera temple: one of the most beautiful places to spend few hours in. Many Japanese shops are around, where you can try matcha and yatsuhashi, and get some souvenirs.
