Stop At: Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, 68 Fukakusa Yabunouchicho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto 612-0882 Kyoto Prefecture

Only 5 minutes by train from Kyoto Station, as soon as you get off at Inari station, the holy world spreads in front of you. Fushimi Inari Taisha, which is the headquarters of 30,000 shrines in Japan, is highly revered, and there is a constant flow of people who visit it. The world-famous Torii Gate tunnel, comprised of more than 10,000 gates offered by worshippers, continues to attract a lot of visitors from all over the world.

Byodoin was once used as nobles’ villa and changed into a temple nearly 1000 years ago. Its appearance, which is said to represent Gokuraku Pure Land, is very solemn and beautiful. It is also depicted on Japanese 10-yen coins and 10,000-yen bills. You may find out what the Pure Land in Buddhism is. The exhibits of the attached museum are also worth a visit.

Gekkeikan is one of the leading sake brewers in Japan, and you can learn about the process of brewing from its exhibits.
