The main river in Kyoto city and popular for walking and cycling among locals and tourists. The famous Japanese performing art Kabuki was born on makeshift stages on its dry riverbed some 400 years ago. We will cycle alongside the river enjoying the fresh breeze

Stop At: Heian Jingu Shrine Shinen Garden, 97 Okazaki Nishitennocho, Sakyo-Ku Heian Jingu Shrine, Kyoto 606-8341 Kyoto Prefecture

One of the most important places for locals as it was built to commemorate the commencement of imperial reign in Kyoto.

One of Kyoto’s most important temples with the massive temple gate which is one of the three greatest Sanmon gates in Japan. The temple grounds are filled with red and yellow leaves in Autumn which attracts many people. There is a unique contrast between the timber-constructed temple building and the brick-built aquaduct that passes through the temple grounds.

Stop At: Philosopher’s Walk, Sakyo-ku between Ginkakuji and Nyakuoji-jinja, Kyoto Kyoto Prefecture

2 km long path that follows a canal, lined with cherry trees which bloom in late March.
The tranquil nature of the path helps people to meditate while they are walking, and it is a great spot for cycling.
