What makes Discover Kyoto at night by bike a unique experience ?

We start our journey from our meeting point at the ECO TRIP store located near Kyoto Station. From there, we will go to Toji Temple by bike. This will take approximately 10 minutes. There we visit one of the most ancient temples, which is also a world heritage site. We will spend around 20 minutes exploring together and learning about the history of the ancient capital, Kyoto.

After Fushimi Inari Shrine, we ride our bikes for approximately 20 minutes to Miyagawa-cho, the world’s famous Maiko and Geisha area. There, we may catch a glance of Maiko in the narrow alleyways illuminated by the traditional Japanese lanterns, Chochin.

After a pleasant stroll through Maiko and Geisha street, our next stop of the day will have us visit one of Kyoto’s unusual shrines where we can learn the back story to one of Kyoto’s most peculiar shrines. We will spend about 5 minutes here.

We will see one of the true gems of Kyoto, the Hokan-ji temple, known as Yasaka Pagoda. We will spend about 10 minutes going through the stone-paved alleyways resembling the ancient Kyoto.

Our next area of interest is the best night scenery, and spot for photos. Considered by many as the most traditional area of Japan, Ninenzaka is one of the two slopes that offer tourists an amazing view, specially at night, of what Japan used to be in the past.

We will submerge ourselves in the core of what Shinto is, learning about the origin of Yasaka Shrine and one of the three main festivals, Gion Matsuri.

We’ll ride around Gion which is the center and the most traditional geisha district in Kyoto. traditional houses illuminated by Chochin torches produce a unique atmosphere that you can only enjoy at night.

We park our bikes and climb a stoned stairway to enter the gardens of the Kodaiji Temple. We’ll tour around the forest, walking over wooden bridges to see an authentic tea ceremony house, walk by ponds that reflect the surrounding bamboo forests on the water, creating a mystical and harmonious atmosphere.
