In this tour we visit two towns with an ambiance from the past, Kameyama shuku and Sekishuku. Many buildings from the past are in Kameyama and you can enjoy the castle town of the past. In Sekishuku enjoy Japanese food culture and the city. Try the local tea, with explanation of tea by the shopkeepers.
We will also visit a historical pastry shop with an odd history. It was managed by decades of ninjas. Why don’t you experience life in the past?

In the Edo period (1603-1868), Tokaido was a major road linking Tokyo and Kyoto. The width and route of Tokaido has changed overtime but the original form has not changed. This time we will visit 2 of the 53 junctions.

Stop At: Kameyama Castle Remains, 1 Aratsukacho Uchimaru, Kameoka 621-0851 Kyoto Prefecture

Kameyama was once a castle town. The building of the castle were destroyed during the development of the city. But you can feel the ambiance of the city in Tamonyagura. From here, walk along the highway and enjoy a view of the past.

In a time where there were no trains or cars, samurais with high status such as Daimyo traveled by horse. However, most highways were on foot. Milestones have been placed as a sign to mark the distance traveled. There is a moku tree that remains from the time, feel the history of Tokaido.

Walk to Kameyama juku. See the old townscape of almost 2km. The road that continues to the mountains is the same scenary from 150 years ago.

This town has places to rest during your trip. Among them, Tameya was as popular as a big hotel. Today it is a library. Objects of time and historical information related to life of the past remains here.

Stop At: Fukawaya Mutsudaijyou, 387 Sekichō Nakamachi, Kameyama, Mie 519-1112, Japan

It is a pastry shop with over 400 years of history. It is famous for a candy called Sekinoto which has been eaten for hundreds of years. Besides its history, it is a unique shop run by the descendent of a famous ninja.

Mie prefecture is well known for its tea across Japan. This shop gathers tea from across Japan and makes tea using unique process. Of course there is a fine selection of tea, but there is also fine preferences to the interior and packaging whereby the shopkeeper’s commitment to the shop can be felt.
