Also known as ‘Piss Alley’ – charming, right? – this ramshackle collection of tiny bars and eateries can be found on the west side of Shinjuku Station, crammed between the railway tracks and the Ome Kaido. Some of the buildings here have survived the frequent fires and other disasters of past decades, as evidenced by the burns and similar damage visible on the walls. You’ll find everything from yakitori joints to cafés and soba eateries lined up, but booze is what it all comes down to in the end.

While this entertainment district in Shinjuku once had a questionable reputation, it’s famous for hidden spots and rare gems that can’t be found anywhere else in Tokyo. Kabukicho is full of restaurants, bars and karaoke joints, along with movie theatres and live music venues. For the perfect photo op, don’t forget to stop by the flashy main entrance – the brightly lit street sign somehow stands out in the sea of neon surrounding it.

When visiting Shinjuku, you can’t miss the massive Godzilla head that sits atop the Toho building. This imposing statue was installed on the 8th floor terrace of Hotel Gracery when the Toho building was built in April 2015. While passers-by usually just admire this captivating sight from afar, not many people know that you can go right up to the Godzilla and see it up close.
Shinjuku’s bustling nightlife district of Kabukicho is now home to Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, Japan’s largest hotel and entertainment complex, which opened its doors on April 14. The towering skyscraper spans 48 storeys and five basement floors, with plenty to keep you entertained. There’s a cinema, live concert venue, gaming arcade, yokocho food hall and much more.
Tokyu Kabukicho Tower also features artworks by 26 artists scattered throughout the building, including art rooms inside the building’s Hotel Groove Shinjuku. Additionally, there are highway bus stops for Haneda and Narita airports on the first floor, making it easy to connect to other destinations.

Located just a stone’s throw away from Kabukicho, Tokyo’s entertainment district, Okubo Park was renovated in 2010 as part of the “Kabukicho Renaissance”, an initiative aimed at regenerating the area into a safe and enjoyable town for everyone. The park now serves as a hub for sports and cultural activities.
Throughout the year, various events are held, such as meat festivals and spicy gourmet food festivals, aiming to create and disseminate new culture from Kabukicho, enliven the town, and revitalize the local area.
The 3,300 square meter park is well maintained and divided into a general use area and a sports area. While there are no play equipment, the sports area includes a basketball court and a futsal court, which can be used free of charge.
In 2022, the sports area’s court underwent a renovation, resulting in an art court with geometric designs.

The area around Shin-Okubo Station, where there are countless Korean restaurants and grocery stores, is crowded with people even on weekdays. It’s fun to shop for popular Korean cosmetics, buy hotteok and tteokbokki in cups at food stalls, and walk around town while eating them.

Japan’s host club industry is hard to wrap your head around. Why are there so many clubs and are they really worth the fuss? Despite seeming like a niche activity, host clubs are typically swarming with clientele, though their temporary closure due to Covid-19 coronavirus safety measures meant that they, along with bars and other nightlife venues, were empty through April and May. While most host clubs reopened earlier this month after government restrictions were relaxed, one venue is closing its doors for good – but not without a proper farewell.
We will eat Special Wagyu BBQ A4 and A5 grade as unlimited Beef after this sightseeing point.
the time of writing, it’s not clear whether the new show will be the full version similar to its predecessor or a reformatted version due to the size of the stage (the new performance stage is roughly half the size of the previous one at the old venue).
Tickets must be reserved through the website and cost ¥9,000 if paid for in advance online or ¥10,000 upon arrival on the day of the show. The ticket price also includes food and drink options. You’ll get to choose either a bento box (beef, sushi or appetiser set), ramen, udon or two drinks. If you want additional drinks, you can pay with cash directly at the show.
