Stop At: Hiroshima Castle, 21-1 Motomachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima 730-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture

The castles within Hiroshima city were destroyed by the atomic bomb and were rebuilt. You can see how the castle used to look like before, and also climb the tower. They also have displays showing Bushi culture.

Stop At: Okonomimura, 5-13 Shintenchi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima 730-0034 Hiroshima Prefecture

Hiroshima is all about “Okonomiyaki”! Most of the restaurants will make okonomiyaki right in front of you on the grill, so enjoy how it is made! While the chef cooks your dish, you can also enjoy conversation and their skills!

Stop At: 酒商山田, 5-1 Horikawachō, Naka Ward, Hiroshima, 730-0033, Japan

・SAKE-SHOW YAMADA: A liquor store that mainly sells Hiroshima’s local sake and rare alcohol. At the cafe inside the store, you can try tasting and compare different sakes. Enjoy the mariage between the sake and the delicious appetizers provided.

Stop At: コオリヤ ユキボウシ, Japan, 〒730-0031 Hiroshima, Naka Ward, Kamiyachō, 1-chōme−4−11ー2 の家

・Koriya Yukiboushi (Snow hat): A “kakigori” (shaved ice) shop selling cute shaved ice. They invented a new form of shaved ice which puts cake and ice cream inside fluffy ice made from natural spring water with a sauce that looks like foam. We highly recommend trying this interesting kakigori as it tastes fantastic as well!

Stop At: Andersen Hiroshima, 7-1 Hondōri, Naka Ward, Hiroshima, 730-0035, Japan

・Andersen: A bakery that is well-known in Hiroshima. It is a shop that reproduced Denmark’s Danish pastry for the first time in Japan. There are currently over 70 Andersen bakeries across Japan. There is an anecdote of staff selling bread to Hiroshima citizens using a bicycle-drawn cart after the war, and as such, this shop is loved by the locals. A symbol of Hiroshima’s reconstruction which kept its business in the building that was damaged in the explosion.

Stop At: Atomic Bomb Dome, 1-chōme-1-10 Ōtemachi, Naka Ward, Hiroshima, 730-0051, Japan

The symbolic location of the atomic bomb, also known as the Atomic Bomb Dome. The atomic bomb exploded almost directly overhead of this building leaving the city in disaster, and the memorial stands here as a reminder of this sad incident. It is a popular site for visitors.

Stop At: Children’s Peace Monument, Nakajimacho, Naka-Ku Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Hiroshima Prefecture

Also known as “Tower of thousand origami cranes”, is a monument with many colorful origami cranes in a bundle of one thousand (called “Senbazuru”). Origami is one of the Japanese traditional cultures, and crane-shaped origami is believed to symbolize peace. Even today, people send Senbazuru across Japan and from other countries, and the facility receives a total of ten million origami cranes annually.

Stop At: Ekinishi, 12-12 Ōsugachō, Minami Ward, Hiroshima, 732-0821, Japan

・Ekinishi: A drinking spot attracting a lot of attention because of the several stylish shops that have opened up in the area. There are many delicious shops including Teppanyaki restaurants and izakaya that use Hiroshima local produce, and there are many small bistros. It is up to you to stay at one restaurant and relax, or go izakaya-hopping to 2 or 3 places! Let’s end this tour with Kanpai (Cheers) to the delicious food and fragrant alcohol.
