Daruma dolls are round-shaped dolls that have long been loved by the Japanese as good luck charms that help realize people’s wishes. In this one-hour workshop, you can create your original colorful daruma doll. Choose your favorite fabric, cut and paste it onto the daruma’s body, and paint a face on it. As daruma and fabrics are two of Chofu’s main specialties, this makes a perfect souvenir of your visit to the city. While waiting for the glue to dry, engage in fun little daruma-themed games or take pictures with a daruma mask on your head. Tea will also be served at this time. This is a great way to get a quick hands-on experience of Japanese culture while putting your creativity to work.

Itinerary
1.Meet your instructor at the daruma shop Daru-chan No Ouchi, near the entrance of Jindaiji Temple.(10 min)
2.Choose a fabric. This is probably the toughest, yet most fun part of the process. There are so many beautiful fabrics to choose from that you may have a hard time picking just one.(5 min)
3.Write your wishes on the body of the daruma and paint daruma’s face on the fabric.(10 min)
4.Cut the fabric into various-sized pieces depending on the print and pattern, and paste them onto the daruma’s body. Let your imagination run wild. Maybe a masterpiece is in the making! (30 min)
5.Leave the glue to dry. Meanwhile, engage in fun daruma-themed games and take pictures while enjoying some Japanese tea and daruma senbei.(15 min)
6.The session concludes. Daruma’s sharp glance is believed to repel bad luck, so place it somewhere near you so that it can always watch over you and protect you.
