Otemae Street: This is the main street connecting Himeji Station to Himeji Castle. As you walk along this exciting boulevard, the figure of the castle drawing closer and larger will surely make you look forward to exploring the castle even more!

Himeji Castle: Himeji Castle, a world-famous castle, is both beautiful and strong in appearance, and was the first historical building in Japan to be registered as a World Heritage Site. Its graceful appearance, like that of a heron spreading its wings, has earned it the nickname of “White Heron Castle”. Stepping inside, you can still experience the period style of architecture, which is still impressive to visitors after more than 400 years.

Mt.Shosha Ropeway: Welcome to Shoshazan. In the old days, people used to walk up the steep path to Engyo-ji Temple. But for us modern people, the ropeway is a relief. The view of the city of Himeji from the gondola is exceptional.

Engyo-ji Temple’s “Mani-den”: After getting off the ropeway and walking along the mountain path, you will reach Engyo-ji Temple. The first thing you will see is the Mani-den, a large building with over 1000 years of history. You will surely be impressed by the sheer size of this structure, built in the middle of the mountains in the days when there were no cars or electricity! The view of the city from the stage is also breathtaking.

Engyoji Temple “Grand Lecture Hall”, “Dining Hall”, and “Jogyodo”: After enjoying a walk through the temple, you will come to a plaza further along the mountain path from Mani-den. There, you will see three huge halls; these have actually been used as filming locations for Hollywood movies and Japanese TV dramas!
